This past weekend just across the border in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, they held one of several Ironman Triathlons. This endurance race is 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking and 26.2 miles of running a marathon. I watched the highlight show last night in awe at the athletes who competed for 9 hours or more in 90+ degree weather. I love to watch things like that because as a runner it is very motivating.
They had several stories about people who had overcome odds to make it to the race. One was a man who recently had open heart surgery, another who had leukemia, and another who had lost his leg in a land mine while fighting in Iraq. I sat there thinking about how some days I don’t feel like exercising, or think it is too hot, or feel like I’m too tired, then I realized how silly I’m being. So this week I’m saying to myself "Suck it up, get off the couch, and get movin'!"

There was an article in the paper about an 89 year old woman that does triathlons. She said something like she doesn't feel a day over 70. Sometimes I feel like that too!
Now I'm feeling guilty that I haven't moved my tush in a week! Get movin, Jenny!!!!!
Speaking of it being too hot to want to exercise... I decided to get up really early this morning to run because it was suppsed to be near 100 degrees for the high today. (and I figured it would be good practice to wake up and run early in the morning for the "Chief Joseph Run".) So I got up at 6:30 am and went running. (it was already 70 degrees out!) I kept seeing all these people drive by and other people out exercising or walking and I thought to myself,"What are all these people doing up so early??" I'm sure glad on most days I can sleep until 7:30 or 8!
PS: I notice Pop posted at 5:18 am Mont. time. So, maybe 6:30 really isn't that early?
Emmy Lou, Pop's only up that early so that he can get a jump on The Weather Channel before bidding his beloved tomatoes good morning. Trust me, we're not missing anything.
No, I have to get up early to keep up on my blog reading.
